Portrait of CISO Lars Christoffersen

Our CISO, formerly our CTO, has been here for more than 30 years. In this portrait he elaborates on what makes Vitec Aloc a truly special workplace.

Shared development principles - common drive

Meet Lars. He has been part of Vitec Aloc since 1994 and, over three decades, he has played a central role in the company’s technological development. Today he has been appointed CISO after serving as the company’s CTO for the past eight years.

Lars originally trained as a low-current electrical engineer, but quickly became captivated by software development. When he joined the company, it was a small setup with an entrepreneurial approach — everyone wore many hats, and much of the work was done in a very hands-on, improvised way.

"We were close to the customers and literally went out with floppy disks to install solutions. It was a different approach back then, but you learned an incredible amount because you were given the freedom to do so."

Since then, much has changed. Lars has helped raise the quality of both products and processes and made the development work and our approach to product infrastructure less dependent on individual people. He highlights especially the structuring of technical infrastructure and shared development principles as decisive steps — and he himself was a key driving force behind the merging of development departments and the introduction of Microsoft-based tools.

More ownership in closely knit teams

One of the milestones he looks back on with pride is the transition to an agile organization. Instead of central control, teams today work independently with their own planning and estimation:

"SCRUM teams has created ownership and better flow. We’ve become far more precise - and it has improved both quality and job satisfaction."

When Vitec became the owner in 2014, Lars was among those who presented the company’s technical direction. He quickly saw that Vitec’s philosophy of maintenance and continuous product development aligned with his own mindset:

"As a developer, you want to build something that lasts - not something that decays. In many ways, Vitec has made room for that way of thinking."

One of the things Lars has valued most over the years is the trust people are met with. If you want responsibility, you get it — and your interests are heard. He has changed tracks several times himself and helped drive change from within.

When he thinks about the company’s culture, the words that stand out to him are integrity, stability, and humanity. And he hopes new employees sense that too:

"You’re not just a number. People look after you
- and there’s a reason why many choose to stay here for many years."
